Rowid is still insertion order for me, so that works. Did the conversion with a script that walks in rowid order, and I've kept the old column around in case.

You know the answer. Store UTC. In Python that's datetime.now(timezone.utc), or use integer epoch. Convert when you display. For the old rows, you can't tell the two 01:30s apart from the text alone, …

Export has two sets of readings for 01:00-02:00 on the night the clocks went back. The script writes datetime.now() into the db as text. Pretty sure I know the answer, but what's the right fix for the…

Also count failed writes, otherwise a client can hammer you with bad requests for free.

A Map is fine for a single process. Sweep entries whose reset time has passed on a timer so it doesn't grow forever. If you ever run two processes you'll need something shared, but don't build that un…

For me it explains the compiler errors quite well. And also sometimes confidently wrong. I still ask here when it's important.

Single node process, small API. I want to allow ~20 writes a minute per client and reject the rest. Everything I find assumes redis or a gateway. Is a Map of counters with a reset timestamp good enoug…

Rejecting it is easy, it's the time spent replying politely that adds up. I've started asking "which case did you see fail?". It mostly ends the conversation.

I use one for boilerplate and it's fine. If I couldn't explain the diff I wouldn't send it. It's the not reading it that's the problem, you're right.

Used to be that bad code at least had the decency to be short.

Got a review comment this week, four paragraphs, very polite, on a one line change. Told me to consider edge cases in a function that takes a boolean. Then a PR where the description explained a featu…

That's bloat. Check first whether autovacuum is keeping up: SELECT relname, n_dead_tup, last_autovacuum FROM pg_stat_user_tables ORDER BY n_dead_tup DESC LIMIT 5; If last_autovacuum is old, look for a…

Table has maybe 2 million rows and takes 60GB. A row is around 200 bytes. Updates a lot. Is this normal? autovacuum is on.

Multicast between wifi and wired isn't getting bridged. Look for IGMP snooping or some "multicast enhancement" option on the wireless side and toggle it. Also check it hasn't put wifi in a guest or is…

New router. Printer and the Pi are fine by IP, nothing.local resolves any more from wifi. From wired, it's fine. avahi-browse shows them on wired only. Any ideas before I start hitting things?

BSD sed takes a required argument to -i, the backup suffix, so it swallowed your script. sed -i '' 's/foo/bar/' file on the Mac, which then breaks GNU. Portable form: sed -i.bak 's/foo/bar/' file && r…

Mine did this until a BIOS update. Check the Lenovo release notes for your model, there was a thermal fix for several of them. Not saying it's your problem, but it's a cheap thing to try first.

Reviving to say I moved one of my boxes to timers after this thread and then moved it back when I realised I'd forgotten how to read the journal on a read-only rescue boot. journalctl -D /mnt/var/log/…
