"No space left on device" but df says 40% free
Web box. Can't create files, deploys failing with no space left on device. df -h says 40% used on /. Have rebooted. Same. What else takes up "space"?

df -i. You've probably run out of inodes.

find / -xdev -type d -size +1M will find directories with an unreasonable number of entries. PHP session files and mail queues are the usual ones.
/var/lib/php/sessions, 6.1 million files. The cleanup cron got removed in some migration. find ... -delete has been running a while now but I've got space to deploy. Thanks all.
other cause for the same symptom if anyone lands here: deleted files still held open. lsof +L1 shows those
